The Barn Cardington was formally opened on Sunday 5th November 2017. The ribbon was cut by local celebrity Samantha Womack.
The Barn is a new community shop / deli / café that has recently been opened on the site of the old Summerhill Farm Shop. It is the brainchild of Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity (BRCC), also based in Cardington, which has teamed up with the gourmet butcher Woburn Country Foods to offer local people access to high quality produce from Bedfordshire and further afield.
Jon Boswell, BRCC Chief Executive, says: “We have long had a commitment to promoting local food & drink in Bedfordshire. When Summerhill closed, we felt we had to step in to continue its commitment to supporting local producers and suppliers as well as providing the local community with access to high quality produce on its doorstep. We hope that the café will give people an extra reason to visit us as well as providing more of a hub for the community. The Barn will also support the rural economy and provide employment and volunteering opportunities for people in the area. We hope that local residents will support us by shopping here frequently.”
At the Barn you can find high quality meat; fresh fruit and vegetables; a well-stocked deli counter; great coffee together with simple, reasonably priced meals; mouthwatering pies, pastries, cakes and biscuits; local wines and ales; convenience foods; condiments and sauces; and a wide range of other products.
The Barn is on Cople Road, Cardington, Bedford MK44 3SX. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 8.30am to 5.00pm, and Sunday from 10.00am to 4.00pm. The Barn is now also taking Christmas orders by email and post.
